How the calculator works
Three industries in Norway have a minimum hourly rate written into law: construction, electrical work and fish processing. In those, the calculator starts from the legal floor and works up.
Everywhere else there is no statutory minimum. The calculator uses the range we see in our own placements. That is a market observation, not a guarantee.
Holiday pay accrues at 10.2% of gross and is paid out the following year. Tax defaults to the 25% PAYE rate that most new foreign workers pay in their first year; you can switch it to an ordinary tax card.
The statutory minimum rates
| Industry and level | NOK / hour | approx. EUR / hour |
|---|---|---|
| Construction: skilled worker | 264.32 | ~€24 |
| Construction: no industry experience | 239.61 | ~€22 |
| Electrical: skilled worker | 270.45 | ~€25 |
| Fish processing: skilled worker | 240.96 | ~€22 |
| Fish processing: production worker | 225.96 | ~€21 |
Tool
The result is an estimate, not a job offer. The rate that counts is the one in your contract.
What the calculator leaves out
- Travel to Norway and back, when the employer does not pay it.
- Work clothing and tools, when they are not supplied.
- Union dues, if you join a union.
- Overtime that varies month to month. Enter your average, not your best week.
Common questions about pay in Norway
Does Norway have a minimum wage?
Not a national one. Norway has no single statutory minimum wage. Legally binding rates exist only in certain industries, including construction, electrical work and fish processing.
Why is the tax 25%?
Most new foreign workers spend their first year on the PAYE scheme, a flat 25% that already includes social security. If you are on an ordinary tax card, change the rate in the calculator.
Is holiday pay on top of my wage?
It accrues at 10.2% of your gross pay and is paid the following year, usually in June. It is not a bonus; it is your own money held back.
How does overtime change the number?
Overtime in Norway carries at least a 40% supplement over the normal rate. The calculator applies it, but enter your average overtime rather than your best week.
Is accommodation free?
Not always. Some employers provide it, others deduct it from wages. You can enter your own monthly rent in the calculator.
