Working at a SalMar salmon plant
SalMar ASA is a Norwegian company and one of the largest salmon farmers and processors in the world. Its northern plant, SalMar Innovanor, sits on the island of Senja near Finnsnes, well above the Arctic Circle, and processes huge volumes of Atlantic salmon.
The work is production-line salmon processing: gutting, filleting, trimming, sorting, packing and quality control. It is done in a cold, wet plant on rotating shifts, so it is physical and demanding, not glamorous. Experience in food or fish processing counts for a lot here; if you do not have it, you need to be physically strong, reliable and ready for the pace. In return the pay is solid and the contract is proper.
